As a student you gain knowledge about your chosen profession and then you go out into the world and learn how to apply this knowledge in real life situations. My work experience has been in the artisanal space and retail of artisanal products. A large part of what I do is skill upgradation. This is essentially, identifying the potential of a particular craft cluster, training the artisans, such that their products can command a price directly proportional to the work they put in. I have over the years trained traditional artisans, men and women tailors, in producing high quality products. This involves giving them an understanding of what good quality means.
I have also helped artisans build their capacity through skill upgradation workshops. This enables them to cater to the demand of an ever growing market and maintaining good quality consistently.
Besides artisans, I have trained merchandisers in understanding the product categories that they are in charge of in their companies and everything that goes with it. A large part of this training is to make them understand what they are selling and their company’s USP. Sometimes, it involves theory and practical classes about the techniques used in making their merchandise.
